Continents

So I had an interesting discussion about continents with my boys and just want to disseminate some info...

By definition a continent is Conventionally, "...understood to be large, continuous, discrete masses of land, ideally separated by expanses of water." Many of the seven most commonly recognized continents identified by convention are not discrete land masses separated by water.
-Reference: Wikipedia

So pretty much it is under discretion by whatever authority to call a land mass a continent.

Had it not been for the man-made Panama canal, North and South America would just be America. Actually, many South American natives refer to the continent as just America.

India identifies itself as a subcontinent because 1. The Himalayas and 2. Society as a whole depicts Asians as fair-skinned with slanted eyes and did not want to be identified that way

Europe has been an argument for centuries about it truly being a continent; mostly by mountain terrain, specifically Caucasus and Ural Mountains and small bodies of water i.e. Caspian sea, Ural River and Black Sea

Aiight enough of my geekness for today, you can add to it or just take it in...Hope you made it through Monday!

Peace & Blessings
